Francisco and Jacinta to be canonized in Fatima, on May 13th.

Ceremony will happen during the Mass of the 13th of May, presided by Pope Francis.

Francisco and Jacinta Marto will be canonized in the Shrine of Fatima, on the 13th of May, during the Mass of the first International Anniversary Pilgrimage of the Centennial of the Apparitions, presided by Pope Francis.

They then become the youngest non-martyrs saints in the history of the Catholic Church.

The decision about the place and date of the canonization was made today in the public meeting of the Consistory, held in the Vatican Apostolic Palace.

The Shrine of Fatima is again the stage of a ceremony in the canonization process of Francisco and Jacinta, after, on the 13th of May, 2000, John Paul II presided in the same place to the beatification of the two sears.

The canonization was approved on March 23rd, when the Vatican announced that Pope Francis had recognized the miracle attributed to Francisco and Jacinta, the last step of the process, initiated 65 years ago.

The recognition of a miracle held by their interception after the beatification is a process of the Sacred Congregation for the Causes of the Saints responsibility, guided by the Apostolic Constitution Divinus Perfectionis Magister, enacted by John Paul II in 1983.

In the canonization process of Francisco and Jacinta Marto, it was accepted as a miracle the miraculous cure of a child in Brazil, in a case where details are still very few.

The decision of the experts or scientific commission about the acceptance of the miracle was later analysed by theologians, who recommended the acceptance to the Sacred Congregation for the Causes of the Saints.

 The decree released by the Congregation, declaring the two blessed as saints, was then submitted to the approval of Pope Francis, which happened on the 23th of March this year.

The canonization is the confirmation, by the Church, that someone is worthy of public and universal cult and worthy to be given to the faithful as an intercessor and model of sanctity.

The liturgical feast of Francisco and Jacinta, so far only in a diocesan level, occurs on the 20th of February, the of Jacinta´s death.
